Presenting is much more than speaking at conferences. It happens all the time. So you need to be ready all the time.

This is a fun exercise that will surprise you: Start counting the number of times people in your office are presenting. Count everything.

Start with the meetings. Followed by actual events. Training sessions, client meetings, pitches. Even birthday speeches. Count them all.

Chances are the number will surprise you. It will be a lot higher than anticipated. That is because we present (ourselves) all the time. You could even argue that one-on-one conversations are part of this as well. Especially the ones outside of the office, with clients.

Now think about the amount of time that is being put in there. And then think about the outcome. Do you feel it has a good ROI?

Probably not. People talk and present a lot. But the actual persuasion rarely happens. It’s not easy to step into a room and persuade people to buy or to accept your point of view. You need to be able to express yourself.

Having staff that is capable of expressing themselves in the right away. Having staff that is capable of persuading clients. Having staff that doesn’t need hours to discuss or debate strategy. Wouldn’t that be great?
